Love Wrecking Cars?
Did you love the over-the-top, reckless racing action of the FlatOut series? Or the ferocious wrecking fests of the Destruction Derby games? We did too!
What if you could somehow relive those glorious moments, mixed with some serious Street Rod inspired vehicle upgrading and spiced up with fierce online races where players can battle it out with their tricked out bangers?
Now THAT would be something.
Over the years, you’ve been asking the same thing over and again: When are you going to get back to your roots, and create another high-octane racing game that would capture the spirit of over-the-top action and reckless racing as the legendary games of the past?
We’ve heard you, and we now have some pretty exciting news for you. Our next racing game is going to bring those unforgettable moments up-to-date, and the best part of it all is that we want to make it with YOU!
It’s called Next Car Game.
Why Should You Care?
Unique Racing Experience.
First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.
If you’re familiar with the original FlatOut experience, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.
Oh, and we’ve got full-blown, straight-up demolition derbies, too, to go with your full contact racing.
Awesome Cars.
The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE! You won’t find anything like them in other racing games.
We’ve got variety: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage. Need more horsepower on a budget? No problem, scour the classifieds for a bargain supercharger – just remember that a cheap bargain find might not withstand too much punishment!
The career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.
Exciting Engine.
Our in-house ROMU engine is a beast. A hell-bent beast that’s precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. You could not create this experience with just any engine. The ROMU engine is all about heavy metal going way too fast and crashing into stuff.
At Bugbear we’re all about putting you in the driver’s seat. That’s why our engine is simulating everything, to give you great feedback on what your car is doing. You’ll feel the little bumps on the track, the weight of your car when you go over them – and most certainly you’ll feel it when you’re being dealt some damage, only that getting HURT has never before felt so good!
We can’t wait to show you what we can do with today’s hardware. Now we have fully dynamic visual car damage (no predefined damage models!), and the environments are more destructible than ever before.
Essentially, we can now put a ton of flying metal and dirt in the air at any given time, and we certainly will!
Why Do We Need Your Help?
It’s actually very simple. This is not going to be a small game, we have a lot of ambition on what Next Car Game could be. We’ve invested over one million dollars into the game already. This would normally be the time when we go looking for a publisher to take us the rest of the way. This time, however, we want to make the game that we want – the game that you want – not the game that a publisher wants. Making games costs some serious money, but if everything goes well, we’ll have a great, tight-knit community that’s going to support a lot of awesome content over the years!
We at Bugbear have a long track-record of making high-octane racing games, and we know that we can pull it through with your support. We’ve been making racing games for over 13 years, and this is our tenth (10 !) game. We’re recreating a type of experience we’ve already shipped three times on four different platforms, so we do know what we’re doing.
Why Should I Pre-Order?
Early Access.
You get to make this game with us. The game is currently scheduled to be released early spring 2014, but we’re going to release an early version later this year, and that’s going to be available to our early supporters only.
The early access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what sucks.
Shape the game to something you want to play!
Support Us.
Pre-ordering really helps us make the game you deserve. Your support is absolutely vital to this game! We have decided to make this game without a publisher, but to do that we need to find the money elsewhere. Doing it with the fans gives us a lot more creative freedom.
You get to communicate DIRECTLY with the development team to make sure we’re making the all-out racing game that you want. By backing us now, you get to say your word on the design. Want a specific game mode? Don’t think your favorite car model is included? Let’s hear it!
No compromises made for appealing to the mainstream – this one is for our dedicated fans!
A Great Deal.
It’s a great deal that we want to give to our fans. The final game will cost more than pre-ordering., so you’re saving money by supporting us now.
Pre-ordering is also your chance to get many neat options that are not going to be available later – custom cars and paintjobs, a chance to be featured in the game or listed in the credits. There are also digital extras like the soundtrack and exclusive wallpapers, and those might not be available later.
We expect to build a great community around Next Car Game. Our early supporters are going to be its stars and we’re going to make sure they’re recognized with special community badges.
If you want the stuff, get it now!
Frequently Asked Questions
Whatever you want to know is likely answered here. If not, ask away on the forums!
When is the game coming out?
Sometime in 2014. However, we’re planning on unleashing a sneak peek at the game in fall 2013 if we can garner enough interest – it’s going to be a very cool, small piece of the game! Plus you also get the early access option which lets you play a more complete game still in development, months before launch.
What platforms is “Next Car Game” going to be released on?
We’re making the game for the PC first, including all those neat PC features such as wheel support. Console versions (both next-gen and/or current-gen) are possible later if we raise enough money. PS4? Xbox One? It’s up to you!
What engine are you using to build the game?
We’re using ROMU, our in-house engine that we’ve been building since 2000. It’s very good at racing and destroying stuff. We do use some middleware solutions where it makes sense – audio, presentation, some network functionality.
What are the minimum and recommended system requirements?
System Requirements
Minimum:
o OS: Windows XP
o Processor: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz

o DirectX: Version 9.0c
o Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
o Sound Card: DirectX®-compatible
As a principle, the game is going to run great on 2-3 years old PCs, which is what we’re developing it on.
Does it have multiplayer?
Multiplayer is a huge thing for us and a big reason why the FlatOut games continue to be popular – but that doesn’t mean we’re forgetting single player, either!
I have a great idea for a track/car/game mode/other coolness!
Sweet! Let us know on the forums.
Will the game be completed no matter how much or little money is raised through pre-orders?
Yes. We’ve got everything together for the content in the basic Alpha version already. That version of the game will be released for sure.
What will you do with the extra money?
It’s all going into the development of Next Car Game. We have pretty big plans, and the fans have submitted a lot of requests. Stretch goals for the funding will be revealed during the campaign.
Where can I buy the game?
You can buy it directly from us right now if you pre-order. If you choose to wait, you’ll be able to buy it directly from us or through a number of digital delivery options on the PC. A physical retail version is also possible, but not confirmed.
All pre-orders through us come with Steam CD keys once a Steam version of the game is available.
Isn’t it risky?
We’ve been working on the game for over a year already. The game is already playable and it looks and plays great! We’re essentially re-imagining a game we’ve already shipped three times on four platforms (FlatOut, FlatOut 2, FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage on PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360) – it’s not like this is the first time we’re doing this.
Are all the images in-game?
Everything you see here was rendered and captured in-game!
